The first construction phase of the bear sanctuary started in December 2016 and was inaugurated in March 2019. Covering a total area of over 22,000 sq.m, the establishment was designed to raise up to 44 bears.
In the recent past, the sanctuary has rescued and cared for dozens of bears taken from bear bile farms nationwide.
It has also step up communication campaigns to enhance public awareness of biodiversity preservation and environmental protection.
As of December 2019, the sanctuary had been taking care of 29 bears, of them 27 individuals were rescued from bear bile farms, and the two others were saved from illegal trafficking.
The sanctuary can now offers different types of tourism such as ecotourism, bear observation and experience activities.
By the third quarter of 2019, the sanctuary had attracted 2,500 visitors, including 2,000 international tourists.
The bear sanctuary officially opened for visitors with free entry from 9am to 5pm every day, beginning in March 2019.
The bear sanctuary is considered another attractive destination for tourists in Ninh Binh, thereby contributing to the development of the province's tourism.
