The movement "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims" during the 2016 lunar New Year was started on November 1st, 2015 and will conclude on February 5th, 2016, aiming to collect one million presents worth VND300,000 each to present to one million families, according to its organizer - the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC).
Together with other ways of capital mobilization, this year, the VRC continues to launch the campaign on sending messages to raise funds for the movement by texting TET to 1409. Each message will contribute VND18,000 to the movement.
Accordingly, families living on or near the poverty line, beneficiaries' families, Agent Orange victims, disadvantaged members of the VRC, cadres and soldiers belonging to the coast guard, fisheries surveillance, navy forces, those on duty at the DK1 frame-house, disadvantaged soldiers and poor fishermen will benefit from the movement.
Apart from cash and Tet presents, those who benefit from the movement can be given assistance in terms of housing, medical insurance cards, health care, cows and other means of sustainable assistance.
The movement, launched by the VRC Central Committee in 1999, has assisted the lives of tens of millions of poor people and AO victims during the traditional lunar New Year, contributing to promoting the tradition of solidarity and mutual love among the people.
