The Gia Vien districtt held a ceremony on March 24 to mark the 1,100 birth anniversary of King Dinh Tien Hoang, who dispelled the anarchy of the 12 warlords to become king under the name Dinh Tien Hoang. He named the country Dai Co Viet (Great Viet) and set up the capital in Hoa Lu, which is now Ninh Binh.

In his speech at the ceremony, Chairman of Gia Vien district people's committee Hoang Manh Hung reviewed the life of Dinh Bo Linh.
Dinh Tien Hoang, also known as Dinh Bo Linh, was born in Kim Lu hamlet, Dai Huu village, Dai Hoang district (now part of Van Bong hamlet, Gia Phuong commune, Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province), on March 22, 924.
He is renowned for his achievements in conquering twelve rebellious military groups, unifying the nation, and was honoured with the title Dai Thang Vuong (The Great Victory King).
In 968, Dinh Bo Linh ascended the throne, becoming the first emperor of Vietnam after the period of northern domination. He adopted the national title Dai Co Viet (Great Viet) and relocated the capital to Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh.
A special art programme spotlighted the Dinh Tien Hoang's life and career, was performed at the ceremony.
This year's festival, taking place from March 24 to 25, includes ceremonies, an art perfomance, music festival about King Ding Tien Hoang, folk game, cooking contest, floral designs and displays contest, kite competitions...
