Restructuring plan for tourism sector

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recently passed a plan on tourism restructuring to turn the sector into a spearhead economic one.

Striving for leading Southeast Asian tourism

The plan aims to restructure the tourism sector in order to optimize advantages in products, markets, resources; raise people’s living standards; advertize the land and people of Viet Nam; spread cultural values; and convert Viet Nam into the group of countries with leading tourism development in the Southeast Asian region.

Under the project, by 2025, tourism income would touch US$ 45 billion. Tourism export would be US$ 27 billion. Tourism sector would contribute over 10% of GDP; generate 6 million jobs including 2 million direct jobs; raise the proportion of trained laborers to 70%; serve 30-32 million international guests and 130 million domestic ones.

Developing new tourism products

To fulfill the aforesaid goals, the project targets to exploit highly affordable markets; develop community-based tourism, Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions(MICE) tourism;develop new tourism products.

Tourism businesses will be restructured in which large-scale and famous tourism enterprises will play the vital role. Tourism agencies are encouraged to develop startup; IT application, smart and creative tourism in line with new requirements of market economy and international integration.

Earlier, in 2017, the Government unveiled an action plan to transform the tourism sector into the country’s economic engine, following thePoliburo’s decision to pursue that goal.

The plan includedeight core objectives aimed at including the public in the sector’s development and promoting the image of Viet Nam and its people to the international community. It requiredthe sector to make various adjustments in order to better adapt to the global market, especially localities with great potential for tourism.

Provincial governments were tasked with reviewing their tourism strategy and marshalling all available resources to boost the sector’s development.The plan also emphasizedthe government’s commitment to ensuring security, fairness and transparency in tourism activities. Tourism enterprises are encouraged to innovate and diversify their products and services, especially in promoting the country’s cultural heritage and numerous handicraft villages./.
